I’d thought of calling this blog post ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’ as, being English, that’s what we say at this time of year. However, my American cousins prefer Happy Holidays and it’s only New Year for some of us so what to do? I decided on Happy New Year as it’s sincerely meant.

New Year is a time for reflection, for looking back and, on that note, I recently read an email about the KANA blog from our Chief Marketing Officer, James Norwood. James took the time to thank the team for their contributions over the past six months and to comment on the wide and various subjects we write about. When we decided to reintroduce our blog last summer I was asked to be the gatekeeper and my remit was to encourage contributions and to ‘keep them coming’. We recognized that for our blog to be successful we needed to write often and to ‘have an opinion’. Blogs don’t just happen. Like all good things, they need investing in.

I’m very lucky as, apart from the author, I’m the first person to read each new blog post. They blow me away! Occasionally I question a sentence or term if I think the meaning isn’t quite clear. I’ve even told some that the subject would be better as a white paper or webinar. The outcome, we believe, is a blog of unfailing interest and quality, which occasionally sparks some interesting debates.

Seth Godin is a blog writer of exceptional experience. His blog is widely respected and read and he has an opinion on many things. His mantra is to write often, whether it’s a few words or a long essay. But not just a journal or marketing blurb. Write about something topical, have an opinion, share your views, encourage debate, be controversial (occasionally), provoke. When James is asked how to write a successful blog he says ‘You need people with strong, passionate opinions who want to share them with others, oh and share them regularly.’

So, thank you dear reader, for your interest in our blog. We wish you a successful 2012 and look forward to your continued comments and feedback. Happy Holidays and New Year from all at KANA.
